Swine flu claims second N.C. victim

A second North Carolinian infected with the H1N1 virus has died, according to Moses Cone Health System in Greensboro, where the man was a patient.

Doug Allred, spokesman for the health system, said the man died Friday afternoon. He originally was being treated for asthma complications. He was later found also to have the H1N1 virus, often called swine flu. It is not yet known whether he died as a result of the virus or a combination of ailments.

A respiratory therapist who had treated the patient before the virus was found later treated infants in the intensive care unit at Women's Hospital of Greensboro. As a precaution, 33 babies in the unit were given anti-viral medications.
