Verdict reached for woman with mesothelioma who was exposed to asbestos as a child

A verdict of industrial disease was reached in the death of a 64-year-old woman with mesothelioma who was exposed to her father's work clothes as a child. Victoria Powell had never personally worked with asbestos or lived close to a factory that manufactured asbestos-containing products. However, her father, a power station maintenance worker, brought asbestos dust home on his work clothes. He also died of an asbestos-related disease. The coroner who held the inquest into her death ruled it was due to an industrial disease, finding that had it not been for her father's industrial asbestos exposure which he brought into the family home, she would have never died of the disease. Mrs. Powell was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma in October of last year and died in April.
